JBIG is an early lossless image compression standard from the Joint Bi-level Image Experts Group, standardized as ISO/IEC standard 11544 and as ITU-T recommendation T.82 in March 1993. It is widely implemented in fax machines.

JP2

JP2, or JPEG 2000, is a file format for storing bitmap images with advanced compression and file data capabilities. The standard filename extension for JP2 files is .jp2. JP2 files can be compressed using either lossless or lossy compression. Lossless compression results in a larger but higher quality image. JP2 files can store metadata such as dimensions, tone scale, color space, and intellectual property rights. JP2 files can be decoded at various resolutions. Applications: Programs that can open JP2 files include Apple Preview, IrfanView, Adobe Photoshop, GIMP, and PaintShop Pro. Not all web browsers support JP2 formats, so a plug-in may be required to view them. The Joint Photographic Experts Group developed the JPEG 2000 standard from 1997 to 2000 to replace the original JPEG standard, which was created in 1992.
