JP2 files can store metadata such as dimensions, tone scale, color space, and intellectual property rights. JP2 files can be decoded at various resolutions. Applications: Programs that can open JP2 files include Apple Preview, IrfanView, Adobe Photoshop, GIMP, and PaintShop Pro. Not all web browsers support JP2 formats, so a plug-in may be required to view them. The Joint Photographic Experts Group developed the JPEG 2000 standard from 1997 to 2000 to replace the original JPEG standard, which was created in 1992.
